Community Partnership Uppingham First has submitted a written response to the recent House of Lords Select Committee consultation on the Rural Economy. Outlining some of the success stories about Uppingham's status as a successful and vibrant market town, the response goes on to make a number of suggestions on how the UK's rural economy could be strengthened. The document  concentrates on what might make small economic centres and market towns more sustainable.

Proposals include updating parish legislation to allow parish councils to directly run community transport and credit unions; requiring Local Enterprise Partnerships to have targets and economic strategies to support market towns; and a call for the concept of directly elected Mayors Mayors to be trialed in market towns.
