altOne of Uppingham's greatest business champions, Kath Gilbert, proprietor of Gilberts Furniture is retiring after over 50 years trading in the town. Famed for the quality of goods and the competitive prices in her shop, Gilberts Furniture and Giftware, footfall is expected to increase significantly in the town this weekend as all stock is being sold off in a grand sale to clear the premises.

Gilberts is at 8 Ayston Road in Uppingham in Rutland LE15 9RL. Tel: 01572 823486. The sale will run from 10am to 6pm Friday and Saturday and from 11am to 4pm on Sunday (February 23rd to 25th 2018).

Traders in the town have paid tribute to Kath's social and business contribution to Uppingham over the years. She was a very active member of the town's former chamber of commerce, was active from the outset in Uppingham in Bloom and is a founding director of Uppingham First and the Uppingham Business Forum. Kath's musical evenings as part of the town's Christmas late night shopping event are legendary and always resulted in a lively and memorable occasion.

Kath has been an active member of Uppingham's Women in the High Street Network and has been described as an exemplary role model for younger women aspiring to succeed in the high street.  Colleagues in the network hope she will continue to make an input once she has taken a well-earned break. Tributes to her achievements will be heard at the next meeting of the Uppingham Business Forum to be held on March 13th.
