Rutland's only fully constituted Residents' Association is featured in  a national report on Community Safety published this week. The community safety work of The Beeches Residents' Association (BRA), which runs a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme at the north end of Uppingham, is described as an example of best practice in the research report published by the national voluntary sector funding organisation 'Capacity Builders'.

The report aims to share best practice around the country and encourage community safety groups to learn from each other. The BRA is said to have helped develop an excellent community spirit in their neighbourhood and its contribution to wider community groups such as Uppingham First and and the Uppingham Neighbourhood Forum is noted. The report also notes the group hosts and trains volunteers for a local emergency defibrillator.

As part of its Action Plan for 2010, Uppingham First has stepped in to fund the annual licence cost of security radios used by Pub Watch in the town. Commenting on the move Uppingham First Chair Robert Wills said, " These radios are an important link in the communication chain between licensed premises in Uppingham. In times of difficulty the radios complement the Partnership's excellent links with Leicestershire police and the Uppingham Beat Team. Uppingham First is pleased to be able to suport this vital community safety initiative".
