On Wednesday November 29th, Uppingham Town Centre hosted the 111th Uppingham Fatstock Show. An annual event unique in the UK.  Once again the show was broadcast around the world by the award winning Uppingham Webcam.

Pictured is the control centre of the webcam which overlooks the market place venue for the show.

Visitors to the town for the event were full of praise for the farming community and the committee that organises the show. The manner in which the  committee is able to run the show in the heart of the town, yet keep its high street open for traffic and trading, receives much praise every year. The show is an outstanding visitor attraction and testimony to the town's rural heritage and history.

Remarkably, by mid afternoon, the market place is swept and restored to its usual role as public highway and town centre parking.  Why not look in through the webcam next year on the last Wednesday in November 2018.

altLocal Artisans and Craft Traders have praised the outcomes of Uppingham's first charity organised commercial Christmas Craft Fair held in The Falcon Hotel. The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Uppingham. The Fair will now become an annual event contributing to the income of local artisans, craft traders and charitable causes supported by Rotary. This year the latter included the Uppingham Hopper.

Early feedback from traders included such observations as:- "Thank you for organising this event. I did really well and am very grateful to have an outlet for my work. Footfall was really good". "Thank you for organising a great Christmas Craft Fair. One of the best! The room and atmosphere and the range of crafts was ideal. The footfall of visitors was wonderful".  "Thank you to the organising team. A great day". "I look forward to participating in any future events".

Plans are now under way to organise a 2018 Christmas Craft Fair. This year's Fair had a waiting list of traders hoping to participate in the event of a cancellation. The possibility of expansion is being explored. A meeting of volunteer drivers for the Uppingham Hopper has confirmed they are keen to see the service restored in 2018. Additional volunteers are now being sought to expand the pool of available drivers, but sufficient staffing is available to ensure the project can go ahead in January 2018. The search is now on for a suitable bus.

The new service will incorporate an updated route and an amended timetable will be published. Bus sponsors and donors are being asked to make their  financial contributions by the end of November. These include a £25k five year interest free loan loan from Rutland County Council.
