Uppingham is a super community and it strives to ensure that everyone is looked after and cared for, especially at this time of year when many people feel the hardship of providing for their loved ones. Many residents and neighbours have been helping others with meals and food and reaching out to those who could do with a little extra help.
Founder of ‘Uppingham Christmas Meals’ Janet Thompson, Chair of the Uppingham Neighbourhood Forum, has extended a huge thank you to 2020 Uppingham Christmas Meal sponsors for the support given to some young families in the area. She advises that all donations have been wisely spent down to the last penny; with gift aid helping to make the money go further.
Uppingham Christmas Meals 2020 has provided a Christmas meal (chicken or turkey) along with all the trimmings from ‘Cooks’ and included Christmas pudding & custard, Christmas cake, mince pies, chocolates and handmade gifts for recipients’ children. Together the Christmas Meals team have helped 22 people this year. Janet reports that the families are very grateful for the support of this gift of friendship to them. It is hoped that this service can be rolled out to more people next Christmas too.
