With the approval of Rutland County Council and Uppingham Town Council, Uppingham First directors Lucy Stephenson and James Torbell are leading on a new initiative to support local businesses which have now opened following the Covid 19 lockdown.
Following a successful launch on August 2nd, four more Social Sunday events are planned for the remaining Sundays in August 2020. The events will see a number of businesses open for the day and a substantial amount of additional seating provided in a market place pedestrianised for the events to strengthen the town’s café society culture.
Commenting on the success of the initiative Uppingham First Secretary Ron Simpson BEM said, “The launch event proved that many residents are keen to support local businesses but feel safer socialising in the outdoors. With the support of Uppingham Church and The Falcon Hotel a great deal more seating is being provided in the open air which has enhanced the town’s offer of social open space for families on a Sunday afternoon and evening. Two table service zones are on offer with some children’s entertainment being provided by church volunteers.”
