Uppingham in Rutland is ready to welcome both physical and virtual shoppers back into the high street from Monday June 15th.
A significant advertising and poster campaign has been launched to encourage support for local traders with government funding being offered by town and county councils to smooth the process. Extras signage, footpath management and supporting volunteers are to be on duty to assist the visiting public and ensure social distancing.
The visitor experience is being monitored by the town’s Emergency Plan Committee to ensure any problems are addressed quickly. A number of town council volunteers will be on hand to assist with crowd control if required.
Commenting on the arrangements an Uppingham Business Forum spokesperson said, “Many have put in a great deal of work to ensure all goes as planned. Traders look forward to restoring the high street’s heritage offer. We hope it will not be too long before this includes our hospitality venues.”
June 15th also sees the restoration of the regular Uppingham Hopper service to its normal timetable.
