Rutland Tennis Academy in Uppingham is an active local tennis club that meets regularly on the courts at Uppingham Community College. The club started 5 years ago when a group of locals responded to a ‘learn to play tennis’ initiative and there’s still a core of those first individuals running what is now an LTA-affiliated tennis club.
RTA-Uppingham now runs weekly training sessions with a professional coach, twice-weekly social tennis sessions among members, and competitive matches against other clubs. Actively looking for new members – whether it’s just individuals wanting to learn to play tennis, someone returning to tennis after a lay-off, or someone already playing regularly – RTA welcomes players aged 12 and over.
“We’d love to grow the club with more members from Uppingham and the surrounding villages,” said club spokesman, Andrew James. “Tennis is very social, plus it’s a great way to keep active, and if you develop a competitive streak then we have teams in several leagues.”
The club has an Annual Adult Membership, Annual Junior Membership (12-18) and Annual Student Membership (students 18-21), but anyone is invited to attend a free coaching session and a social tennis session by appointment, before joining.
