On August 27th Rutland High Sheriff Margaret Miles (pictured centre) joined local business colleagues at the well-attended AGM of the Uppingham Business Forum held in the elegant Oak Room of The Falcon Hotel. Issues discussed included concern about political determination of policing priorities, a bid to the new government scheme for rural 5G wireless projects, an update of the town’s Neighbourhood Plan, the perceived impact on local business of the St Georges project and new ideas for the development of the Uppingham Hopper including ‘HoppShop’ a pilot online/telephone shopping service delivering goods from participating local shops to housebound residents.
Commenting on her visit the High Sheriff said, “I very much appreciated attending the Business Forum AGM last night. It was good to hear about the issues being discussed and to note the very collaborative and ‘can do‘ approach that the attendees took. All there were supportive of their community and keen to see it develop and thrive for all. I look forward to joining the Uppingham Hopper one morning. What a success story that is, along with many of the other initiatives in Uppingham”.
Invited guest to the next meeting of the Business Forum will be Rutland County Council Cabinet Member and Portfolio Holder for Transport, Cllr Lucy Stephenson, who will be discussing the way forward with the County Council’s ‘s new Transport Plan and the implications for small businesses of RCC’s new signage policy.
