The Rutland Lottery: Supporting Local Causes and Communities
The Rutland Lottery is a community-focused initiative designed to support participating local organisations, and causes within the Rutland area. It is promoted on behalf of the Rutland Consortium, the voice of the voluntary sector in Rutland, by the Uppingham First Community Partnership and operated via the national Unity Lottery fund raising platform managed by Sterling Management Centre Ltd who are registered as an External Lottery Manager by the Gambling Commission under the Gambling Act 2005.
The Rutland Lottery was launched in 2014 as part of a broader effort to bolster community funding. The lottery provides residents with a fun and engaging way to contribute to the well-being of their community while also having a chance to win cash prizes.
How It Works
Participants in the Rutland Lottery are allocated a six digit lottery weekly draw number costing £1, with 50% of their draw entry fee directly benefiting local good causes. Players can select which cause they wish to support, ensuring that funds are directed to areas they care about most. The remaining 50% of the draw entry fee is allocated towards the prize pool, operational costs, and VAT.
The lottery draws take place weekly, offering a variety of prizes, including a jackpot of £25,000 for matching all six numbers. Every Friday, the lucky winners are sent their prizes automatically so no one needs to submit a claim. Smaller cash prizes are also available for matching fewer numbers. All participants, regardless of winnings, can feel good knowing that their contribution is making a tangible difference in their local community.
Supporting Local Causes
The Rutland Lottery is unique in England’s smallest county. Charities, sports clubs, schools, and other community groups can register with the lottery and qualify for six monthly grants when their supporters choose them as their preferred beneficiary when purchasing a draw entry. This model of fundraising has proven to be a vital lifeline for many smaller groups that may struggle to secure funding through traditional means.
Since its inception in 2014, the Rutland Lottery has raised significant funds for numerous local environmental, health and community causes. This not only strengthens the community fabric but also fosters a greater sense of unity and shared purpose among residents.
How to Get Involved
Joining the Rutland Lottery is simple and open to all residents over the age of 18. Weekly entries are paid via a monthly direct debit to Unity. Prospective participants wishing to set up a regular subscription should contact the local organiser at execdirector@uppinghamfirst.co.uk or telephone 01572 495050. By participating in the Rutland Lottery, residents not only get a chance to win but also contribute to the vitality and sustainability of their community.
