The Campaign
Rotary’s ‘End Polio Now’ campaign has been running since 1985 when there were 365,000 cases of polio per annum in 125 countries. Today, polio is confined to just Pakistan and Afghanistan and hit a low in 2017 but has since spiked to 96 cases so far this year. It’s not all bad news because within the last 12 months polio has entered the certification period prior to eradication in Nigeria and the second of three polio viruses has also been declared eradicated, leaving only one virus requiring final eradication. We can and will ‘End Polio Now’ it just needs community support to continue funding the work to complete the job within the next few years.

Cycle is sponsored by Uppingham School Sports Centre.
