Leading Uppingham employer Associa is to close down within 12 months and its building sold.  Up to 100 staff face redundancy. The NFU team based in the same building are also to relocate. Commenting on the news, Ron Simpson, Chair of the town's Business Forum and Secretary of Uppingham First stated," Business colleagues are saddened by this development which is firm evidence of how the economic climate is affecting major companies. Associa is the town's third largest employer and has made a significant contribution to our community. With the help of the County Council the impact of this closure will be carefully monitored to ensure an appropriate response."

 French visitors from Caudebec en Caux, the twin town of Uppingham, have enjoyed a three day visit led by their new Town Mayor. Some of the group visited Uppingham businesses to make purchases and exchange views .

Linda Todd, previously based with the Oakham Town Partnership, has been appointed as Rutland Market Towns Manager. Commenting on the appointment, Upppingham First Secretary, Ron Simpson said, " Uppingham First welcomes the appointment of Linda who has a positive track record of working wiith the Uppingham Community. We look forward to a productive working relationship".

Businesses in Uppingham have been invited by Cllr Barrie Roper, Chair of the Rutland Safety Partnership, to attend the official opening of Uppingham's new CCTV system. The event is scheduled for 11.30am on June 25th 2009 at Uppingham Town Hall.
