Uppingham Community Mourns Loss of Childrens Champion PDF Print E-mail

Uppingham's best known voluntary sector childrens champion, Phyllis Muller, died on Friday after a period of illness. Phyllis is perhaps best known for her work in organising fundraising dances in aid of childrens christmas parties in Uppingham Town Hall. Commenting upon her death, a spokesperson for the Rotary Club of Uppingham said,

"Phyllis was an outstanding community champion who put others before herself. Her support for the children of Uppingham is legendary.  Members of the Club were saddened to hear of her death and our thoughts are with her family".

Uppingham to be Organisational Hub of Charity Walk PDF Print E-mail

Uppingham is to be the transport and supplies base for a major new 4.6 mile charity walk around the beautiful Eyebrook Reservoir on the border of Rutland and Leicstershire to be held on March 7th 2010.

The Rotary Club of  Uppingham, part of Rotary International,  has organised the event to raise money for the Lakelands Hospice and LEAT (Leicestershire Employment for Autism Today).

A mini bus link will be established for the day between Uppingham and the Eyebrook Reservoir.

Market Towns Benchmarking Annual Report 2009 PDF Print E-mail

As part of its working relationship with the Wellland Market Towns Group and the Association of Market Towns, Uppingham First maintains a town centre database. The web based database includes business contact details and statistics on visitor footfall, parking useage, market capacity, current high street property leasing costs and the outputs of an end of year business confidence survey. The statistics combine to create a benchmarking Annual Report comparing Uppingham to other similar towns in the East Midlands. The 2009 Report will be presented to Directors of Uppingham First at their next meeting.  

Saturday Farmers Market Proposed for Uppingham PDF Print E-mail

A recent meeting of Uppingham Town Council revealed that Rutland County Council is considering a proposal to mount an enlarged Saturday Farmers Market on a Saturday in the Market Square in addition to the present Friday Market. The proposal would require a regular Saturday road closure and the loss of parking in the Market Square. The Town Council has been urged to consider the impact of the proposal on local businesses but have now voted not to consult local traders. Businesses are being asked to let their views be known!
