The Falcon Reveals its Talons PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday March 27th, Falcon Hotel proprietor Martin Hill and his team launched the latest  stage of their efforts to revitalise the Falcon Hotel with the official opening of the new Talons Restaurant. Talons has one of the best views of the historic Uppingham Market Place and can seat 30 diners in comfort. Guests at the opening night enjoyed a tasting menu of outstanding dishes prepared by Chef Shaun Williams.

Cutting a red ribbon to invite guests into the restaurant, Uppingham Rotarians Margaret and Ron Simpson praised the new initiative as "A valuable addition to the Uppingham Tourism offer and a development in keeping with the heritage of the Falcon Hotel."

At the end of the evening, the full staff team were presented to guests by Mrs Ryan - Pyke who had organised the launch and led on the restaurant project.   For reservations telephone 01572 823535

The Federation of Small Business has organised a 'QuestionTime' event in Rutland for April 1st 2010. The event will be chaired by political commentator Iain Dale, who writes for the Daily Telegraph, the New Statesman and many other journals. Panel members include Alan Duncan MP, and the parliamentary election candidates for the Liberal Democrat and Labour Parties. The Greetham Valley Conference Centre has been chosen as the venue for dance enthusiasts to enjoy the skills of the 118 Dance Club of Leicester who will wow the crowds with demonstrations and then encourage audience participation. The event is on April 17th at 7.30pm and is being organised in the form of a black tie dinner evening for charity by the Rotary Club of Uppingham. EMDA, The Association of Market Towns and The Parish Councils Association were among the invited guests at a demonstration of high speed broadband and  community Wifi on the Beeches Estate in Uppingham, Rutland.

Following a welcome by Uppingham First Chair, Robert Wills, guests were invited to view high definition video being streamed into a retired resident's home at just under 20Mb and speed tests of the new 'free access' community Wifi pilot, presented on a large plasma screen. The visitors were reported to be impressed by the presentation with Cllr Guy Jackson, Chairman of the Leicestershire and Rutland Parish Councils Association saying," I was delighted to be invited to view this innovative project. Access to high speed broadband will be an important element of rural community sustainability for the future. I wish the project every success".

Innovative Uppingham Company Rutland Telecom Ltd is a finalist in the 2010 Mercury Business Awards.

The company, which has already won a number of other awards including a Chartered Management Institute Regional Achievement Award, is shorlisted in  two categories of the awards including 'Best New Start Up'.
