Uppingham to Chair Rutland Consortium PDF Print E-mail

Uppingham Neighbourhood Forum Coordinator and Uppingham First Director Ron Simpson has been elected as the Chair of the Rutland Consortium for 2010. The Consortium brings together a wide range of Third/Voluntary Sector organisations in Rutland and is represented on the county's Local Strategic Partnership - Rutland Together.

Uppingham Town Council met on Wednesday February 3rd 2010. Agenda items included a proposal to support a high speed wifi project for Uppingham, first documented in the publication 'Uppingham 2025'. Town Councillors were asked to consider the  first use of  their  new 'powers of well being' to invest up to £4500 in the project to match fund a similar contribution from the private sector. The Council has responded by confirming an interest in the project and called for the production of an appropriate Business Plan. This request has been incorporated in a 'call for expressions of interest' published yesterday.

February Shopping Promotion - Lunch for Free PDF Print E-mail

To launch its 2010 series of promotions to encourage residents and visitors into town to shop local, Uppingham First is offering opportunities to lunch for free in Uppingham's hotels, restaurants cafes and pubs. During February a number of guests found dining at lunch time in town will be selected at random to have their entire meal bill refunded up to a maximum value of £50.  Winning diners will be selected by independent representatives of the Partnership and not the hotel, restaurant or pub concerned. More information from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Stop Press: The town's first visitors to benefit from  the promotion  were Mrs T J Neal of Loughborough and Mr Grudgings of Leicester who lunched at Baines Tearooms. Guest selector was Sandra Pollock of the Corby based Chartered Management Institute.

Uppingham Community Mourns Loss of Childrens Champion PDF Print E-mail

Uppingham's best known voluntary sector childrens champion, Phyllis Muller, died on Friday after a period of illness. Phyllis is perhaps best known for her work in organising fundraising dances in aid of childrens christmas parties in Uppingham Town Hall. Commenting upon her death, a spokesperson for the Rotary Club of Uppingham said,

"Phyllis was an outstanding community champion who put others before herself. Her support for the children of Uppingham is legendary.  Members of the Club were saddened to hear of her death and our thoughts are with her family". 

2025 - Partnership Responds to Call for On Line Community Forum PDF Print E-mail

Following recent 2025 respondents' calls for online opportunities to contribute to the debate  on the future development of Uppingham, The Board of Uppingham First has agreed to investigate the possibility of developing an online community forum on this web site.  Further news soon!
