altUppingham First and its constituent Business and Neighbourhood Forums  have reached agreement with Leicestershire Police and its Rutland LPU Commander to work toward the strengthening of policing in Uppingham by collaborating to recruit two police special constables with the power of arrest to be based in the town. The initiative is being coordinated by PC Joshua Ace Pictured).

Volunteer Police Special Constables can work different hours to paid officers and can help support not only the existing beat team, but also the town's night time and weekend economy.

Commenting on the initiative Business  Forum Chair, Neighbourhood Forum Coordinator and Neighbourhood Watch lead Ron Simpson BEM  said, "These new posts will be an excellent opportunity for members of the community who are interested in a future career in the police service or simply wish to make a significant contribution to community safety and the prevention of crime in Uppingham. The community welcomes the Leicestershire Force's positive attitude toward this initiative which will get properly under way in the summer."
