Following recent publicity that there are now over 100,000 electric/hybrid cars registered in the UK, a Rutland company has announced the creation of the UK's first electric car tourism trail designed to attract a new generation of environmentally conscious motorists to the East Midlands and England's smallest county.

The Rutland Electric Trail is the brain child of award winning business led partnership Uppingham First and will initially be marketed via the Uppingham Webcam, car dealers and the region's tourism agencies. The Trail will link the county's two market towns, Oakham and Uppingham to Rutland's top attraction, Rutland Water, and three of the county's leading hotels. Initially, the Trail will offer day time and overnight charging facilities for up to 12 cars linked to a wide range of visitor opportunities. UK visitors driving to the county will be able to access the trail directly with oversees visitors flying to the country able to hire electric cars for up to one week via an arrangement with leading car manufacturers and rental agencies.
