altCelebrating the Arts in Uppingham 2107 has been declared a big success by its organisers, the Rotary Club of Uppingham.

Guests at the charity event included the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr Laurence Howard OBE, the High Sheriff of Rutland Craig Mitchell, former Oakham and Uppingham Town Mayors Adam Lowe and David Ainslie, and Town and County Councillors. Also present were a range of guests from the creative arts and visiting Rotarians from as far afield as Scotland.  Principal guest speaker was Joy Everitt, Chair of Arts for Rutland.

Following a reception in the Woodbine Contemporary Arts and the North Street East Galleries, guests were entertained by presentations from both galleries at a dinner served in the Garden Terrace of The Falcon Hotel. The evening also included a preview of the work of local artists as part of Open Studios 2017.

Selected on the night were two commissions to local artists for new works celebrating the heritage of Uppingham funded by the Biz Club; a view of Uppingham High Street  by Alan Oliver (pictured) and an aerial photograph of Uppingham Market Place on the day of the Fatstock Show, taken by local photographer Mike Morallee.
