The Rutland High Sheriff’s Musical Safari held in Uppingham on Saturday February 4th has been declared a great success. Music and entertainment were offered at seven venues on the day. Pictured is furniture retailer Kath Gilbert who hosted a folk group.

Commenting on the occasion, High Sheriff Dr Sarah Furness, writing to the supporting volunteers of the Rotary Club of Uppingham said, “I am thrilled with the success of the event. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. We had 7 venues and they were all respectably attended. People kept coming up to me and telling me how much they were enjoying it and what a great idea it was. We had people of all ages from babies to older people and a wide social mix which was really important to me. I think it was a real celebration of everything Rutland and Uppingham stand for and showed great community spirit. It helped raise the profile of my three chosen charities and the role of High Sheriff (so many people do not know it exists or what it is) and Uppingham’s too I hope. We will also have raised a goodly amount – not sure how much yet we have not finished counting – but I feel strongly that it would be a mistake to judge the success of the event only in terms of how much money was raised. What we did was more valuable than that”.
