Uppingham business Rutland Telecom has triumphed in the region's 2010 Federation of Small Business Awards coming top in three categories including the prestigious 'Overall Best Business' Award.

Held at the Hinckley Island Hotel, over 200 invited guests including RCC Leader Roger Begy, RCC Chief Executive Helen Briggs and Uppingham First Director Ron Simpson, saw the Rutland Telecom staff team repeatedly called on to the stage to receive a range of glowing tributes and a succession of category awards.

First came the 'Best Use of Technology Award' with the firm being described as creative and innovative. Next came the 'Enterprising Business Award' with praise for the way in which the company had used new telecomms regulations to empower small rural communites with high speed broadband. Finally, the jewel in the crown. The 'Overall Business of the Year Award', with a prize worth £5000.  In making the award the judges complemented the company on winning its David and Goliath struggle with BT and championing the cause of small businesses serving local communities. 'A clear outright winner' they said to cheers from the table of Rutland supporters .
