The Uppingham in Bloom team has published its latest newsletter revealing a varied programme of activity leading up to and beyond this year's judging of East Midlands in Bloom during the first two weeks of June.

On Thursday May 11th there will be a cheese and wine evening for at the Crown Hotel. All are invited.  On the afternoon of Saturday June 24th  UIB are hosting an Open Gardens event with tickets available from The Falcon Hotel and on the day from  the Town Hall. 

On the evening of Saturday November 25th is the Uppingham in Bloom Ball held in The Falcon Hotel. Tickets are £45.

Look out for the Uppingham in Bloom Tree Trail, a new tourist attraction to be launched in the summer of 2017.

Katie Marshall from Hall Gardens in Uppingham and a pupil at Catmose College in Rutland has won her way through to the national finals of the 2017 Young Musician competition organised by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI). Katie is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rutland and has progressed through district semi-finals, district finals, and RIBI regional finals.

The national final takes place at The Welsh College of Music on Saturday May 6th 2017.

A lively meeting of Uppingham Business Forum held on April 4th 2017 and attended by Rutland County Council has addressed a number of issues for traders in the town.

Following the re-election of RMJS Associates Principal Ron Simpson BEM (pictured) as Forum Chair for a further year, receipt of an Executive Summary of the Uppingham Town Centre & Business Zones Plan and an annual report on the Forum's activities, attendees shared their concerns on the significance of huge business rate rises, unlicensed street hawkers, problematic mobile signage and the impact of supermarket theft. 

Also discussed were the proposed road closures to resurface the High Street, the next steps in trying to reduce the social and economic impact of the traveling fair, broadband in the high street and outcomes of a recent meeting with the Chief Executive of the Local Enterprise Partnership. It was noted that the town's efforts to forward plan on economic development matters were held in high regard at national and regional level.
